Bill was born and raised in the small Florida Panhandle town of Graceville and attended Florida State university. He graduated from Florida State University College of Law in 1971. For over 40 years, he has been an active trial lawyer representing the rights of seriously injured victims of negligence in the South Florida area. Although he has represented clients in a vast number of cases, his specialties include automobile, motorcycle, and truck accidents; medical and dental malpractice; premises liability from slip/trip-and-fall accidents; injuries from faulty products; and construction-site accidents.
Bill continues to be a proud member of the 200 Hundred Club of Greater Miami and a supporter of the Police Officer Assistance Trust. These two organizations give substantial financial aid to the spouses of police officers who have tragically fallen while in the line of duty. In addition, Bill, has earned the highest attorney rating of “AV” from the nationally recognized Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. In 1992, the Florida State University College of Law named its mock-trial competition’s “Most Dedicated Advocate Award” in honor of J. William Kirkland.
In his time away from the office, Bill enjoys all types of sports and athletic activities. He specifically enjoys playing golf, fishing, whether it be deep sea, back country, or fresh water, as well as, skiing in the winter months, usually in Colorado or Utah.
These sporting activities, which also include being a true spectator fan of football, basketball, and baseball, has been made all the more meaningful, because he has been able to enjoy these activities with his son, Matthew.
After moving to Miami, and beginning his law practice in 1971, he truly loves the “Greater Miami” area, and has undoubtedly gotten “sand in his shoes”.
